The Fourth Annual Civics & Law Academy, sponsored by the Harford County Bar Association, was held at Patterson Mill High School on April 1, 2016. SLH associate Laura Bechtel was among the local volunteers who taught a section of the program to 150 high school students from across the county. The program, designed to coincide with Harford County high schools’ civics and government classes, provides students with the opportunity to select workshops of their choice to attend. For the third year in a row, Ms. Bechtel chose the timely topic of “Law in the Cyber Age” as her workshop, and engaged students in discussions and debates regarding their social media accounts, college and prospective employer access to social media accounts, the use of cell phones in public schools, and the realties and dangers of privacy infringement by government agencies.
